Kevin Burns To Attend Roswell Cosmic-Con!

Kevin Burns is the creator and executive producer of more than 500 hours of diverse and dynamic television programming. His work can be seen on E!, History, A&E, Travel Channel, Bravo, Animal Planet, National Geographic Channel, AMC — and more.

In 1993, while working as an executive at Twentieth Century Fox Television, Burns cofounded Foxstar Productions where he developed and produced a series of “Alien Nation” movies for television. In 1994, Burns founded Van Ness Films, a subsidiary of Foxstar that was designed to produce non-fiction and documentary programs and specials for the growing cable marketplace.

In 1999, Burns founded Prometheus Entertainment where he continued to create and produce film and television programming, most notably “The Girls Next Door,” “Kendra” and “Hollyʼs World” (for E!), the popular History Channel series “Ancient Aliens” and “Americaʼs Book of Secrets” for H2. In 2003, Burns won his first of two Emmy Awards as Executive Producer for A&Eʼs Biography series. Other recent projects include “Kendra On Top” (a reality series for WEtv), “The Godfather Legacy” (a two-hour special for H2) and “Food Paradise” (a series for the Travel Channel).

Also in 1999, Burns, in partnership with feature film executive Jon Jashni, founded Synthesis Entertainment where the two began developing and producing remakes and sequels of the popular Irwin Allen movies and television series (“Lost in Space,” “The Time Tunnel,” “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea,” etc.), most notably the feature film version of “Poseidon” in 2006.

Roswell Wins at 2012 Tourism Association of New Mexico TIARA Awards

City Wins NEW EVENT OF THE YEAR for
2011 Roswell International Sci-Fi Film Festival

At the Tourism Association of New Mexico (TANM) Governor’s Conference on Tourism today, the City of Roswell was recognized for excellence in the NM tourism industry at the TANM Tourism Industry Recognition Awards (TIARA). These awards help bring greater awareness to the importance of the tourism industry to New Mexico’s economy, and are given to highlight excellence and creative accomplishment in travel marketing and promotion.

Roswell was recognized with a TIARA award for NEW EVENT OF THE YEAR for the 2011 Roswell International Sci-Fi Film Festival:  Aliens in Cinema.

“We are overwhelmed with the success of last year’s event and the partnerships with ENMU-Roswell and Famous Monsters of Filmland.  We could have never pulled off an event of its magnitude without securing the blue ribbon sponsorships for the event that housed and fed the many crews including Xcel Energy, IATSE, the Roswell Museum & Art Center, Eastern NM Medical Center, Roswell Hyundai, Pepper’s Grill & Bar, Hampton Inn, Red Brick Pizza, Portofino’s, Golden Corral, Planet Roswell, Martin’s Capitol Café and many others,” stated Reneé  Roach, City of Roswell Marketing Director and 2011 RISF Festival Coordinator.  “We encourage everyone to come to this year’s event which will include even more activities such as Roswell’s first Comic Convention, programming from top notch film industry leaders, vendor exhibition, Marvel Character, even more celebrity guests and a Mascarade Ball at the Spring River Park & Zoo, from June 22-24, 2012,” Roach continued.

This year’s event has been rebranded as “Roswell Comic Convention & Film Fest” and is being managed by Phil Kim, Publisher and Manager of Famous Monsters of Filmland.

Geoff Notkin hosts the award-winning television series Meteorite Men on Science Channel, currently in its third season, and has also appeared in shows for Discovery, TLC, PBS, A&E, National Geographic Channel, History Channel, Travel Channel, and the BBC. He is a science writer, meteorite specialist, photographer, world traveler, and the owner of Aerolite Meteorites LLC.

Ryan Penagos, aka Agent M, is the Executive Editorial Director for Marvel’s Digital Media Group. Beginning his career as an editor for Wizard Magazine, Ryan joined Marvel when its Digital Media team was only 5 people. He’s helped turn Marvel.com into the destination for Marvel news & information. He also loves tacos, cats and high-fives.

Roswell Film Fest Now Accepting Entries

We are pleased to announce that RISF is now open for submissions. We’re looking for the best in Sci-Fi, fantasy, suspense, and supernatural cinema-both short and feature length. And, of course, all short screenplays (12 pages and under) will be entered in the Shoot-Out, where 5 lucky winners will be chosen to come to Roswell, NM and have their scripts turned into films. Mark your calendars! We’re proud to announce that we have officially set the dates for this year’s RISF. The event will be held June 22-24th, 2012 in the heart of UFO country: Roswell, NM. With special guests and events surrounding the film and script competitions, this year’s fest promises to be unforgettable. Welcome to the website for the 2nd annual Roswell International Sci-Fi Film Festival and Shootout. Coming off of the great success that was last year’s fest, we’ve been given no choice but to do things even bigger this year. Like the previous fest, we’ll be celebrating the best films and screenplays that embody the spirit of Roswell and its Sci-Fi history. This year, the festival is teaming up with one of Sci-Fi’s most notable names: Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. Founded by the man who created the term “Sci-Fi”, Forrest J Ackerman, FM has joined up to bring their own brand of entertainment and spectacle to RISF.
